Hi Friends,

We hope that your 4th of July celebrations were filled with fun and blessings, and that you were able to enjoy time with friends and family. As with all of you, our hearts are broken for our neighbors in central Texas who endured devastating floods over the holiday weekend.  We join with you in praying for those that have suffered so much loss.  We are also grateful for the calls, texts and emails from many of you with words of concern and encouragement asking if we are okay and if we have been affected by the storms.  Wimberley and the surrounding areas have gotten some much needed rain, but thankfully no flooding.

While Wimberley and the surrounding area were spared from this July 4th storm, we remember the impacts of the two tragic floods back in 2015.  We are proud of our strong little community who pulled together to help one another through those difficult times back then, and how we see so many now coming to help the hurting families in Hunt, Ingram, Kerrville, Burnet and surrounding counties by donating money and supplies, bringing meals, searching for the lost, and giving hugs and prayers.

Amid so much pain, we have seen and heard many inspiring stories of faith, love, compassion, courage and kindness.  Seeing the videos of the kids over the years having fun at the summer camps before the storm brought back special memories for many of us of our own childhood camp experiences.

Hearing about the volunteers and counselors serving at these camps reminded Lynn and me of our time serving as camp directors for Royal Family Kid’s Camp which serves kids in the foster care system.  The love and joy that these hurting children experienced for that one week of camp each summer was enough to keep hope alive in their hearts for the rest of the year.  And the laughter and smiles on the kids’ faces are what kept the volunteers coming back to serve tirelessly year after year.

The video of the rescued girls and counselors from Camp Mystic riding the bus to the recovery center quietly singing songs of faith in the aftermath of such tragedy will forever be memorialized in our hearts, reminding us that only God can give “peace that passes understanding” in such traumatic times.

These tragedies also remind us of what is most important … cherishing every moment and making special memories with our family and friends, serving our neighbors, and offering hope to all those who God puts in our lives.

Gracie Hunt, the daughter of the Kansas City Chiefs’ owners, lost a young relative in the floods.  She offered a beautiful tribute and prayer in support of their family’s loss and the other souls lost in the flood:

“My heart aches for our extended family and friends who lost daughters – for every life lost and every family shattered by the floods in Texas. I don’t have easy answers, but I do know this: following Jesus doesn’t spare us from pain – but it means we never face it alone. “Even in the darkest valleys, we hold on to the hope that this is not the end of the story.”

Thank you, dear friends, for the prayers and words of encouragement you have offered up for all those grieving in Texas and across the country.
