Hi Friends,
Fall is in the air here at the Inn, bringing cooler mornings and evenings, along with the fall décor and pumpkin recipes. September always reminds us of returning to school each year, along with the mixed feelings that we experienced. Getting back into a routine and re-connecting with friends we hadn’t seen over the summer was a treat. But those first few days of school each September we share stories of looking outside from the classroom windows, daydreaming and longing for more fun summer adventures, like strawberry and blackberry picking, going to the lake, biking and ball games with the neighborhood kids, and competing in horse shows for Diana. Lynn was distracted by his thoughts of swimming, exploring the woods, building forts, church camp and motorcycle rides with his friends. Thoughts and planning fun fall activities and getting outside and seeing the beautiful fall colors with the changing of the leaves in the cool crisp air was what kept us going.
We have all experienced difficult moments that make us long for simpler times and joyful moments. This September has been especially difficult as we remember those who tragically died 24 years ago on September 11th. And we mourn the shocking and tragic death of Charlie Kirk, a loving husband and father of two precious young children who was a man of faith and a patriot who treasured his country. Please join us in praying for his wife and children, family and friends, as well as healing for our country.
These events make us realize how precious life is and remind us how important it is to cherish our time with those we love, to take time to make wonderful memories, and do the simple things that bring joy and make our lives rich. While enjoying a cup of coffee and quiet time on the porch in the mornings, I love bird watching. This week within just 10 minutes I listened to and located 12 different species of birds through my Merlin app. Some favorites identified this week include the White-eyed Vireo, Northern Mockingbird, Eastern Phoebe, Cardinals and the Eastern Bluebird.
Over the weekend we took a scenic drive and went to Pedernales Falls State Park, taking some detours and roads we had not yet journeyed before. Along the treelined roadway, we saw lots of wildlife, the Pedernales River, and a beautiful old farmhouse from days gone by. Earlier this week, we slipped away for a drive along the Guadalupe River to Gruene where we enjoyed lunch at the Gristmill. Taking pictures of the old dance hall reminded us of all the wonderful venues we have across the Texas Hill Country, many of which are just a scenic drive from the Inn. These simple everyday joys restore our minds and heal our hearts.
$4,500 raised for Kerr County Flood Relief and Mercy Chefs.
We are pleased to announce that, thanks to you, our beloved guests, we were able to raise $4,500 during our July/August campaign to support our dear neighbors who experienced such great loss during the horrific flooding on July 4th. We will donate these funds to Mercy Chefs and Kerr County Flood Relief. Both organizations have been continuously on the ground since day one and have supported rescuers, restoration efforts, and clean-up as well as contributing directly to the current and future needs of those directly impacted by the flooding.
We want to thank each of you who made a reservation during our campaign, and so appreciate your concern and prayers for these flood victims.
We hope you have a wonderful fall! Let us know if we can help you plan a fall trip to the Inn at Sunset Mill Ranch and the Wimberley area. We would love to see you again soon!
Blessings,
Lynn & Diana
