Hi Friends,
April is such a beautiful time of year here at the Ranch. The much-needed rain this spring has caused the grass to grow and the trees to bloom with brilliant shades of green. We have been busy planting our vegetable garden and putting out flowers in the old water tanks we use as planters around the property. And every day we make sure to spend time outside enjoying the beautiful weather, listening to the birds singing and the turkeys gobbling, working in the garden or taking walks around the property.
The blue bonnets and other wildflowers are starting to emerge all around the hill country, making it our favorite time of year to take scenic drives and discover new roads we haven’t yet traveled. Even running errands can be a special time when we take the “back roads” into Wimberley. We roll down the windows, breathe in the fresh air and drive along River Road. This drive follows the Blanco River with its white rock bottom, turquoise waters and beautiful old cypress trees along the banks. The roadsides and fields are blooming with wildflowers as we slow down and meander through the country looking for deer and other wildlife and taking in the sights.
As we get busier here at the Inn, we have learned to be more purposeful about taking time to go for drives and planning little excursions and day trips making time to talk, laugh and reconnect. Here is a link to one of our favorite local short drives to Wimberley and Blanco and back to the Inn.
Recently while visiting with guests during breakfast, we learned they were planning to spend the day in Fredericksburg. When I shared some fun places to stop along the way they kindly asked if they could pick up anything for us while they were out. I was tempted to take them up on their generous offer but decided that it would give us the ‘excuse’ to take the drive later ourselves. We like to turn our trips into fun journeys to ‘gather our food’ making stops along the way to buy jams, pecans, peaches and other treats. Of course, it would be hard to pass up an antique store, a cool shop or an old café for lunch while we are out.
The beautiful spring weather also makes it the perfect time to dine outdoors. A few of our favorite outdoor dining restaurants include: Wimberley – Creek House, Leaning Pear or Chills on the Creek; Driftwood – Hays City Store or Whiskey Ridge; Dripping Springs – Tillie’s at Camp Lucy
However, the Inn is our favorite place to dine al fresco. The deck outside our breakfast room is the perfect spot to take in the views while enjoying a homemade farm-to-table breakfast, a picnic for lunch, or for afternoon snacks and drinks. At sunset relish a glass of wine on your covered porch as you watch the sky turn spectacular shades of brilliant colors, and at night delight in smores around the firepit as you gaze at the stars, or popcorn and snacks while watching an outdoor movie.
The spring and Easter season always brings up special childhood memories, gathering with family and hunting Easter eggs with our cousins. My mom was a talented seamstress and every year she sewed beautiful dresses and outfits for my sister and me. Lynn recalls he and his sisters getting new clothes and dressing up extra special for church on Easter Sunday, and then afterward he and his family would gather for a special meal … a tradition we have carried on from our early dating years and throughout our marriage. Since moving to Texas we are not able to get back to our hometown as often as we would like to gather with family. Now we often celebrate Easter by gathering after church to share a meal and make new special memories with friends that are like family. Speaking of which, be sure to plan your trip to the beautiful Texas Hill Country, take some photos and make more special memories while the bluebonnets and wildflowers are still blooming!
We hope this Easter brings a season of renewal and quality time shared with family and friends to enjoy rich blessings and make lasting memories!
See you at the Inn,
Diana & Lynn
