Hi Friends!
I can’t believe it is already May! Spring is flying by, and we are trying to be very purposeful not to miss out on the fun and important times with friends and family. Late last month we took a drive to Illinois to visit family and celebrate Mother’s Day a little early with our sweet Moms. We always enjoy a road trip so that we can take Maggie, and it gives us good quality time to laugh and talk. The weather was perfect, and we were able to see more wildflowers and experience the beauty of early spring all over again.
Since returning from our trip, we have been busy doing a lot of outside work such as cleaning windows, landscaping and planting more flowers. We have been getting some much-needed rain, and the flowers and grass are thriving. The bees have been very busy, and we will soon harvest the honey. What a treat to have fresh honey to serve for breakfast each morning, and it is especially delicious coming from our own property.
This past weekend, we took a scenic drive and stopped along the way to gather food and flowers. A few miles from home, we stopped at Arnosky Farm and Market and picked up some beautiful bouquets of flowers for the breakfast room, a big hanging plant for one of the porches, basil to plant in our herb garden, and goat cheese for our charcuterie boards.
Next we stopped at Burg’s Corner Farm near Stonewall, which is an old red barn in the middle of peach orchard country where they sell their peaches and local produce to customers. Here we purchased our first peaches of the season, as well as some fresh tomatoes, corn on the cob, pickled okra, and peach and strawberry jams. And of course, we could not pass up a scoop of fresh peach ice cream.
A few miles further down the road we stopped at the Wildseed Farm and picked up a few flowering shrubs to replace some transplanted roses, and also several packets of wild flower seeds for the garden.
After all the driving and gathering, we stopped for a late lunch at one of our favorite hamburger joints, at Alamo Springs Café outside of Fredericksburg. From there we enjoyed the beautiful drive home, feeling refreshed from the food, sights and shopping excursion.
Guests will be enjoying the “fruits” of our drive this week. We are happy to make the beautiful drive weekly as long as the peach season produces my favorite fruit, hopefully all summer.
Let us know your interests, and we would be happy to help you plan your trip to the Inn and to the beautiful Texas hill country, and provide several recommendations for drives, hiking trails, restaurants, shopping, wine tours, and other fun adventures.
Memorial Day is May 27th, and we’d like to join with you to honor the US military men and women who have died in service to our country. Also, we want to say thank you to all veterans and current service members and their families for the sacrifices you have made for this country. God Bless You!
Hope to see you soon!
